Lowcountry Trades Showcase — September 2026
Curt's Canvas
A note on this one: September's showcase. Curt took a free website build rather than a showcase video — a $1,500 build with a custom owner portal for keeping quotes organized and sending itemized ones out. Same idea, different deliverable, and nothing paid for either way.
Introduction
Curt's Canvas does boat upholstery and marine canvas across Charleston and the Lowcountry — cushions rebuilt, bimini tops, full enclosures, T-tops, clear vinyl windows, and golf cart and patio work when it comes in. Curt is a Charleston local who spent years in the marina industry and a stint in boat sales before landing on canvas, which means he has seen boats from three sides: keeping them running, selling them, and now making the parts people actually touch.
The Project
September's showcase went out as a website rather than a video, because that was the thing actually missing. Curt had the skill and the customers and nowhere for anyone to find him — so the build is shaped around how this trade really gets hired: send photos of the boat from your phone, get a quote back, and go from there. It comes with an owner portal behind it for keeping quotes organized and sending itemized ones out, which is the part that saves him evenings.
The Work
The reel is short on purpose. Canvas and upholstery are close-up trades — a seam, a diamond stitch, a panel pulled tight over new foam — and that reads better in tight shots than in a long piece nobody watches to the end.
The People
Years around marinas is not a detail on a resume here, it is the reason the work fits. Someone who has spent that long around boats knows what a cover does in an August squall and what a cushion looks like after three seasons of Charleston sun, because he has seen the ones that failed.
The Craftsmanship
Every panel gets measured and patterned on the boat itself rather than cut to a generic size, which is why it fits when it goes back on. Seats get stripped back and rebuilt with new foam and marine-grade vinyl chosen to stand up to sun and salt, not just to look right in the shop. That is slower than the alternative and it is the entire difference between canvas that lasts and canvas that does not.
Why We Chose Them
Because it is a good example of a small operator whose problem was never the work. The craft was already there. What was missing was anywhere for it to be seen — which is most of this trade, and the reason this site exists at all.
